Under the by-laws of the Institute, the Professional Conduct Committee is responsible for the investigation
of complaints received against members. Currently, the committee is appointed and approved by the Board of
the Institute and also includes lay representation. It is empowered to investigate complaints against
members, such as those directed from the Practice Inspection Committee and the general public.
The committee requires that all complaints be in writing and conducts its investigation into the matter.
After the investigation, the committee may:
-
Determine that there is insufficient evidence to suggest professional misconduct; or
-
Admonish the member informally, or
-
Make a charge to the Institute's Discipline Committee.
All matters that are brought to the Professional Conduct Committee are treated on a strictly confidential
basis.
